What are the most important things to keep in your tactical first aid kit?
Police officers should keep a medical kit filled with items that will be able to penetrate trauma especially for gun wounds and stab wounds.
1. 1 or 2 pairs of gloves- Nitrile gloves are more resistant to puncture and chemicals and do not cause the allergic reaction that latex does.
2. 1 or 2 tourniquets- Tourniquets are tightly wrapped bandages that stops the flow of blood from an artery by applying pressure. The triangle bandage tourniquets work the best due to the cheapness, it’s lightweight, and easy to deploy.
3. 1 or 2 trauma dressings- The key is the ability to apply pressure to the wound, rather than just covering it and absorbing blood.
4. 1 or 2 rolls of gauze- Gauze should be sterile, like Kerlix bandage rolls.
