Thoughts On Thursday: The Evolution of Cell Phones
Telephones have changed dramatically since Alexander Graham Bell spoke the first words into a telephone on March 10, 1876. Overall, they’ve improved since then. Here is a short time line on the evolution of cell phones.
Portable phones were a small-scale cell phone. You could talk on your phone anywhere in your house. At the time, a well-placed portable phone could save you a trip across the house. It was a very bulky cell phone compared to what we had today. The best part was the huge antennae that stuck out of it.
The first Motorola model was the StarTAC, created in 1996. Although General Telephone & Electronics (GTE) held the trademark from the 1970s for its Flip-Phone design. This was a tiny cell phone that contained multiple buttons on the front. It contained a camera, so that people could take pictures on the go.
The iPhone was released on June 29, 2007 in the United States. The iPhone was a huge hit, and is still extremely popular today. The iPhone is very sleek and modern. It is made out of glass and is completely touchscreen. Unlike the other phones, the newer cell phones allow you to access the internet as much as you please.
